How to auto-forward Resy, OpenTable, Tock and SevenRooms emails in Gmail
Add your CityNoms address as a forwarding address in Gmail settings, confirm it, then create a filter for emails from resy.com, opentable.com, exploretock.com and sevenrooms.com that forwards them there. It takes about five minutes on a computer, and new confirmations then file themselves.

Before you start
You need two things: a computer, and your CityNoms address. Gmail only shows its forwarding settings in the web version on a computer, not in the phone app. Your CityNoms address is shown in the app when you sign up. It looks like yourcode@citynoms.com, and it is private to you.
The setup has two parts. First you tell Gmail that your CityNoms address is allowed to receive forwarded mail. Then you create a filter that sends only reservation confirmations there. Nothing else in your inbox goes anywhere.
Part one: add CityNoms as a forwarding address
- In Gmail on a computer, click the gear icon, then See all settings.
- Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
- Click Add a forwarding address, paste your CityNoms address, and follow the prompts to add it.
- Gmail sends a confirmation email to your CityNoms address. CityNoms catches it and shows a Confirm in Gmail button in the app. Click it, in the same browser where you are signed in to Gmail, to finish verifying.
You do not need to turn on forwarding for all of your mail. The filter in part two forwards only the emails that match it.
Part two: create the filter
- Still in settings, open Filters and Blocked Addresses and click Create a new filter.
- In the From field, paste exactly:
resy.com OR opentable.com OR exploretock.com OR sevenrooms.com - Click Create filter.
- Check Forward it to and choose your CityNoms address from the list.
- Click Create filter again.
Gmail asks you to sign in again before it saves a filter that forwards mail. This is a normal security step for forwarding rules. Enter your password, and the filter saves.
If you would rather start from the Gmail search bar, this search finds the same emails: from:(resy.com OR opentable.com OR exploretock.com OR sevenrooms.com). Type it into the search bar, open the search options from the icon at the right of the bar, click Create filter, and carry on from step 4.
Test it with a past confirmation
Gmail filters only act on mail that arrives after you create them. A new filter does not forward your old emails. So the quickest test is to find any past confirmation from Resy, OpenTable, Tock or SevenRooms, hit Forward, and send it to your CityNoms address by hand. Open CityNoms, and it should be in your list within a minute.
Do the same for any upcoming bookings you already hold. After that, new confirmations file themselves.
What gets forwarded, and what does not
The filter matches emails from those four platforms. That includes confirmations, and it can also include the odd newsletter or promotion. CityNoms discards marketing emails instead of adding them to your list, so you do not need a stricter filter.
Some restaurants send confirmations from their own address rather than through a platform. The filter will not catch those. Forward them by hand when they arrive. CityNoms saves them the same way, tagged Other.
CityNoms never connects to your Gmail account. There is no sign-in with Google and no permission to revoke later. It only ever sees the emails your filter, or you, send to it. If you want to stop, delete the filter in Gmail.
If something does not work
- The Confirm in Gmail button never appears. Check that you pasted your CityNoms address exactly, with no extra spaces, and that you finished adding it in Gmail. Gmail only sends its confirmation once the address is added.
- Your CityNoms address is missing from the Forward it to list. The forwarding address is not verified yet. Finish part one first, then come back to the filter.
- A test forward does not appear. Make sure you forwarded a real confirmation, not a newsletter, since CityNoms discards marketing emails. Then check that it went to your CityNoms address.
- You use more than one Gmail account. Forwarding is set per account, so repeat both parts in each account that receives reservations.
Using Outlook or iCloud Mail instead
The same idea works elsewhere. In Outlook, create a rule for messages from those four domains with an action that forwards them to your CityNoms address. In iCloud Mail on the web, add rules that forward messages from each domain. The menus differ, but the result is the same: confirmations go to CityNoms, and nothing else does.
CityNoms compared with checking each app
- Setup. Checking each app: nothing to set up, but you have to remember to look. With CityNoms: one Gmail filter, once.
- Coverage. Checking each app: each one shows only its own bookings. With CityNoms: all four platforms, plus anything you forward.
- Inbox access. Not needed either way. CityNoms only sees what your filter forwards.
- Reminders. With CityNoms: one quiet email the day before each booking.
Short FAQ
What do I paste into the Gmail filter?
In the From field, paste resy.com OR opentable.com OR exploretock.com OR sevenrooms.com, then choose Forward it to and pick your CityNoms address.
Why does Gmail ask me to sign in again?
Gmail asks you to confirm your password before it saves a filter that forwards mail. It is a normal security step, and the filter saves once you sign in.
Will the filter forward my old confirmations?
No. Gmail filters only forward new mail, so forward any past or upcoming confirmations by hand once. That is also the easiest way to test the setup.
Can I set this up on my phone?
Not in the Gmail app. Gmail only shows its forwarding settings on a computer, so do this part at a desk. You can forward single confirmations from your phone any time.
